- I agree with Charles on this one. Christ did not at all advocate hate and violence. You can pick other parts out of the Bible and use it as an excuse, but it is still not what Christ taught.

- That's a good point Andrew. How do we reconcile the "our way is the only way" teachings with tolerance without undermining the importance of the religious texts? I know the Bible tells us to love everyone. Many people don't seem capable of disagreeing and still being at peace with one another.

- Sounds like the judge is making a sadly desperate effort to backtrack and cya. Perhaps a little common sense in the beginning would have avoided all of the embarrassment and criticism? I just pray that nothing bad happens to this poor kid while the judge is wasting time.

- Dennis, Nice post (16.4) and very cool. I don't know a lot about the Muslim faith, but have a vague impression there is a lot of beauty in it. Of course that side of things isn't widely talked about in our media.

- I guess the flip side is if we really run with this "must include all holidays" theme, maybe at some point we could force everyone to observe all holidays from all countries. Imagine all of the paid days off we could get!! I vote we start with Belgium - they have ton of holidays.

- Okay. I'll play devil's advocate here.... it's cool that more and more beliefs and traditions are being made visible to the public and I'm betting it's really nice for those whose traditions were previously invisible.

- Amen to that Johnny angel!! :) I was the recipient from several teachers for a few months back in Junior high and have never forgotten any of them. They are a big part of the reason that I'm an optimist when it comes to the goodness of people.
